The association between maternal diabetes and neonatal seizures: a nested case–Control study

Aim We aimed to evaluate the association of pregestational diabetes mellitus (PGDM) and gestational (GDM) with neonatal seizures during hospitalization. Methods In this nested case–control study, all data were collected from files National Vital Statistics System (NVSS) 2016–2021. Considering effect confounders, we used propensity-score matching (PSM; case:control = 1:4) method select study population. The outcome was considered occurrence seizures. Univariate multivariate logistic regression analyses adopted assess PGDM GDM also conducted stratified according age, birthweight, 5 min Apgar score, maternal age explore potential disparities. Results After using PSM method, a total 6,674 cases 26,696 controls included. adjusting for covariates, associated an increased risk [odds ratio (OR) 1.51, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.15–1.98], whereas between is not statistically significant. addition, correlation observed in neonates 37–42 weeks ≥42 weeks, score ≥7, ≤40 years. Conclusion found be closely findings our indicated that neonatologists should consider monitoring incidence born mothers PGDM.
